The Chartres 11-circuit Labyrinth was completed in 1201 AD, during the re-building of the Cathedral de Notre Dame in Chartres France. The rest of the project was not finished for another 25 years, in 1226 AD. The Labyrinth has a 6 petal rosette in the center, thought to represent either the six days of creation and/or the Virgin Mary. It also has 113 teeth round the perimeter, thought to represent a lunar calendar used in determining the date of Easter each year. All our Chartres labyrinth products include these precise details! |
